In collaboration with Dr. Omar Behar, we designed and evaluated a stainless-steel solar reactor for methane pyrolysis. This innovative method for hydrogen production breaks down methane into hydrogen and solid carbon.
Since it is an endothermic reaction requiring external energy input, selecting an appropriate heat source is crucial for maintaining the environmental integrity of the process. Using fossil fuels for heat generation in methane pyrolysis can result in significant carbon emissions. Therefore, we proposed using concentrating solar technology to eliminate harmful emissions from the process.
