Existing commercial solar receivers face challenges due to non-uniform irradiation. To address them, I collaborated with fellow student Ahmed Azmeer and Dr. Omar Behar to develop a novel design that features a tubular cavity with a tear-drop shaped cross-section double helix heat exchanger and a honeycomb lattice structure.
The receiver uses pressurized air heated at pressures up to 10 bar by means of a high flux solar simulator. Preliminary results indicate enhanced performance and reliability for industrial solar energy applications.
