In collaboration with Dr. Omar Behar and Prof. Bassam Dally, we designed and evaluated using MATLAB a cost-effective CPVT collector with spectral splitting technology for heat and electricity production. As a heat transfer fluid, water with ZnO nanoparticles is used to match the spectral response of silicon solar cells.
The assessment shows a levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of $0.0906/kWh and a levelized cost of heat (LCOH) of $0.0462/kWh. In addition, the CO2-equivalent emissions in a 20 MW CPVT plant are cut by 7822 tonnes per year for Saudi Arabia weather and power generation conditions.
